Aging as a Sacred Rite

The world does not see aging as a sacred rite.  It makes us feel something less than.  I didn’t expect menopause to be the moment that cracked me open.  A river washes away what no longer matters.

But there it was—my body, once predictable, now a stranger. Sleepless nights. Swings of heat and mood. A sense that I was no longer in control of the vessel I thought I knew. I felt betrayed.

And yet…
Menopause became a sacred initiation.

I had to learn to listen to my body in a new way. To stop waiting for permission or apology. Advocating for myself when doctors dismissed my experience. To stop making myself small. To grieve, and then to rise.

This is what a sacred rite looks like.
It doesn’t need incense or ceremony.
Sometimes, it’s found in sweat, surrender, and starting over.

The River Knows What to Wash Away

As I’ve aged, I’ve noticed a river running through my spirit—washing away what no longer matters.

I care less about how I appear in the eyes of others.
I care more about the depth of my relationships.
The performance has dropped away.
What remains is presence.

The version of me in my forties? She tried hard to prove her worth.
The woman I am now? She knows it.

I’ve made mistakes—some painful, some public. But I’ve also learned to own them. I bless what was, and I move on.

Empress and High Priestess: My Sacred Archetypes

Spiritually, this season feels like a homecoming. I no longer feel pulled to hustle or please. I’m not chasing credentials or approval.

I am fully stepping into my Empress and High Priestess energy.

The Empress reminds me I’m allowed to take up space, to create, to be rooted in beauty and abundance.

The High Priestess teaches me to trust my inner knowing. To sit in mystery without needing to explain myself. To guide others, not from theory, but from lived wisdom.

This is the sacred rite of aging:
Coming home to your sacred self.

What Aging Has Given Me Spiritually

  • Clarity. I no longer waste energy on being liked by everyone.
  • Compassion. I see the struggles in others because I’ve lived them.
  • Confidence. I can sit with mystery and not need every answer.
  • Creativity. Crochet has become a moving meditation—one stitch, one breath, one prayer at a time.

I’ve become my own advocate, my own sanctuary.
And now, I guide others who are just beginning to feel their own shift.

Ask Yourself:

  • What part of your life is being washed clean by this sacred season?
  • How are you being invited to reclaim your Empress or High Priestess energy?

A Sacred Practice to Mark Your Rite

Tonight, light a candle.
Place a hand on your belly—your center of creation and power.
Whisper a thank you to your body, even if you’re still learning to trust it.

Say aloud:
“I am still becoming. And this—this is sacred.”
